Dr. Chiam is a highly experienced cardiologist in Singapore who specialises in interventional cardiology, with particular expertise in performing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). He led the team that performed the first TAVR in Asia.
Dr. Chiam graduated on the Dean’s list at the undergraduate MBBS exam, and subsequently, won the Gordon Ransome Gold Medal for being the top candidate at the postgraduate Masters of Medicine exam.
Dr. Chiam trained in general and interventional cardiology at the National Heart Centre Singapore. He then underwent an 18-month advanced interventional cardiology fellowship at the Lenox Hill Heart and Vascular Institute of New York, specialising in complex coronary angioplasty, carotid artery stenting, peripheral artery angioplasty, and structural heart disease (heart valve) interventions. He spent a further three months training in intracranial angioplasty and stenting at the Department of Endovascular Neurosurgery, University of Buffalo, State University of New York.
He is widely recognised as an expert in his field and has been invited to major international cardiovascular conferences as an expert faculty and speaker. In recognition of his technical expertise, he has been invited as a case operator to conduct workshops and perform live transmissions for complex coronary interventions, peripheral artery interventions, and balloon mitral valvuloplasty in the region.
